Richard Rich Raymond, 74, of Mt. Vernon, died Nov. 16, 2010, at Blue Mountain Hospital. A memorial service was held at the Mt. Vernon Community Hall, Nov. 20, with Rev. James Retherford officiating.
Mr. Raymond was born Sept. 11, 1936, in Prineville, to Warren and Mary Belle (Peters) Raymond. He grew up in the Paulina-Post-Prineville country, ranching and driving trucks for the family business.
He had fond memories of the Twin Butte Ranch his family owned between Paulina and Post. At a young age, he learned to ride, rope and do all the ranch chores. He was a cowboy, truck driver and heavy equipment operator.
He loved to catch and break wild horses and ride saddle bronc. He rodeoed and broke a lot of horses for many years.
He did whatever was necessary to support his family: ranching, and hauling cattle, horses and logs.
He married Donna Bryant with whom he had four children. They lived in Paulina until they were divorced in 1967.
In 1989, he married Marilyn Neidhardt and added two stepchildren.
The couple were best friends and did everything together for 21 years. His favorite spot for coffee and stories was the Silver Spur, where he enjoyed telling stories about rodeo, logging, trucking, and the history of Central and Eastern Oregon.
