- Disaster revisits Elks
The John Day Elks Lodge building was the site of another flood, this time from a frozen pipe, in the early morning hours of Thursday, Jan. 6. Gushing water was first noticed about 7 a.m. The problem started on the third floor in the northeast corner of the building, close to where the other flood occurred on Sept. 21-22. In that incident a broken swamp cooler line caused damage to all three floors. According to lead trustee Chuck McKenna and retired trustee Bob Van Voorhis, seasonal decorations stored on the floor below seemed to have sustained the most damage. No estimated cost on the damage is available yet. Both men were hopeful that the repairs for the latest incident would be included in the claim for the September one.
