- New leaders in Dayville
After 14 years on the Dayville City Council, Robert Waltenburg, at right, stepped down, turning over the reins to new mayor Jody Winkelman, standing to his left. Waltenburg began on the council in January 1997, and began serving as mayor in January 2005. Winkelman was elected last November, and had served on the council since being appointed in August 2008.
Also sworn in at the councils Jan. 12 meeting were three new councilors: from left, Merle Metcalf, John Fiedor and Peter Bogardus. Metcalf had served on the council several years ago. Fiedor is a longtime community resident, recently retired from the National Park Service, and Bogardus is a Dayville High School teacher.
In recognition of his long period of service, Waltenburg was presented with a custom-embroidered City of Dayville jacket at the Dayville School Christmas program on Dec. 21.
