Theater artist comes to tell stories

1 p.m., Canyon City Community Hall

Award-winning storyteller Christopher Leebrick will bring his multicultural show of folk tales, original stories, narrative poetry and whoppers in a free, family presentation appropriate for all ages. The program is presented by the Grant County Library, and underwritten by the Oregon College Savings Plan.

Chamber membership meeting

Curtis Smith, southeast district manager for Oregon Parks and Recreation, and Patty Hammett from Malheur National Forest will be the featured speakers.

Saturday, Aug. 13

3rd annual Triathlon for Hunger

Race time: 8:15 a.m., Gleason Pool, John Day

The triathlon is comprised of a 10-lap swim, 12.4-mile bicycle ride, and a 3.1-mile run. Entry fee is $35 a person or $55 per team (2-3 participants). The first two triathlons benefitted a sustainable farming project in Kenya and a family preservation program in Southern Ethiopia. Proceeds from this year’s event are slated to assist another African program, to be announced.

25th annual Shaniko Days

Activities include 25-minute wagon rides, gunfighters and re-enactors with the Grizzly Mountain Long Rifles, parade, street dance with music by Countryfied, drawings, cowboy church, food, vendors and much more. For more information, call 541-489-3434.
