PRAIRIE CITY – Prairie City gets into the full swing of summer this Saturday, Aug. 6, with two popular events.
The Huckleberry Festival and the Grant County Kruzers Show ‘N Shine will offer an array of fun activities, food and music for all ages.
The fifth annual Huckleberry Festival starts at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast in the park next to city hall. Sidewalk sales at downtown businesses, and arts and crafts sales at the Teen Center on Front Street will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Other assorted food offerings, vendors and a bounce house for the kids are also in store, in the Bank of Eastern Oregon parking lot. Lunch by the Prairie City girls basketball team will be next to city hall.
Local band Yarrow, with its original blend of country, folk, rock, blues and jazz, is set to play from 6-8 p.m. in City Park, while the Prairie City Athletic Complex committee serves up a baked potato bar. Proceeds will benefit the football field lighting project. The Huckleberry Festival is sponsored by Talents and Treasures of Prairie City.
The Show ‘N Shine, which also starts at 9 a.m., is a showcase of classic vehicles in all colors, styles and eras. Participants wheel their way to the show from around Oregon and other states.
Prizes will be given out at 3 p.m. in several classes, such as best of show and farthest traveled. Other activities include a poker walk through Prairie City businesses, and ’50s, ’60s and ’70s oldies music to set the mood for the day.
Registration is $20 per car, which includes a goodie bag, dash plaque and poker walk entry.
