JOHN DAY – A bicycle-car collision drew emergency responders to North Canton Street near the intersection with West Main Street in John Day Thursday afternoon, Aug. 4.

According to Sgt. Richard Gray, a 10-year-old John Day boy was riding east on Main about 4:10 p.m. when he cut across the roadway, near the crosswalk, but without stopping, to head north on Canton.

The bike ran into a car that was headed south on Canton, toward Main.

The boy, who was wearing a helmet, was treated by a John Day Ambulance crew and then taken to Blue Mountain Hospital for further treatment.

Sgt. Gray said the boy was recovering at home by the next day.

No citations were issued. Gray said the cause of the accident was “error by the bicyclist.”
