Justice Court
CANYON CITY – The Grant County Justice Court reported the following fines and judgments:
Violation of the basic rule: Loreen Cooper, Monument, 78/55 zone, fined $287; Robert Dyer, Connell, Wash., 77/55 zone, fined $287; Charles Matthews, Winnemucca, Nev., 76/55 zone, fined $230; Rob Whitbeck, Fossil, 75/55 zone, fined $190; Dan Bechtlofft, Henderson, Nev., 75/55 zone, fined $190; Bobby Harris, Prairie City, 74/55 zone, fined $190.
Kelly Jeanne Anderson was found guilty, as a violation, of improper use of an emergency reporting system, and fined $200.
David R. Wiborg was found guilty, as a violation, of offensive littering, and fined $150.
Kim L. Novak was found guilty, as a violation, of improper use of an emergency reporting system, and fined $150.
Oregon State Police
At 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, Oregon State Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 at Clyde Holliday State Park. A white Volkswagen driven by Kyle L. Drake, 28, of Bend, had been westbound and was starting to turn into Holliday Park, when it collided with an eastbound vehicle, driven by a minor from Dayville. Both drivers, who were wearing seat belts, were treated and released.
At 1:27 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, OSP responded to a truck crash on Highway 26 in Prairie City. The driver, Marjory May Baughman, 79, of Prairie City, was eastbound when her pickup truck drifted onto the gravel shoulder. As she overcorrected, the truck slid across the highway and hit a small juniper tree off the westbound lane. She was taken to Blue Mountain Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
At 2:09 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, an OSP trooper saw a Nissan pickup that almost struck a fence at the Elkhorn Mini-Mart in John Day. The driver, Joseph Drew Portugal Mecham, 21, Canyon City, was taken to Grant County Jail, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Troopers responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 26 at Dog Creek Road about 3:34 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12. The driver, Dawna Elizabeth Livy Atchley, 35, of Klamath Falls, fell asleep, and the westbound vehicle drifted off the road. As she overcorrected, the vehicle sped over both lanes, hitting the rock hillside on the southside and rotated counterclockwise before coming to rest along the eastbound lane. She was taken to Blue Mountain Hospital for observation and treatment for minor injuries.
