JD swimmers receive awards

JOHN DAY – John Day Swim Team celebrated the end of the 2011 swim season Wednesday, Aug. 10 with a barbecue, fun and awards.
Lauded as High-Point Boy was Jake Waldner. Auna Waldner, his sister, was given honors as High-Point Girl.
Swimmer of the Year kudos went to Railey Namitz in the girls category, and Logan Delano, in the boys.
Honored for “Most Improved,” were:
Age 8 & Under: Lucas Wolf, boys; Harli Grove, girls
Age 9-10: Luke Williamson; Jennifer McCormick
Age 11-12: Gina Pulleiro; no boy
Age 13-14: Charli Bowden; no boy
Age 15-18: Lindsey Webb; Lane Woodcock
Named as “Outstanding Swimmers” were:
8 & Under: Justin Hodge; Rhea Mead
Age 9-10: Grant LeQuieu; Tori Coalwell
Age 11-12: Ty McDaniel; Myckee Coalwell
Age 13-14: Sarah Wright; no boy
Age 15-18: Jake Waldner; no girl
All swimmers received “Swimming” lanyards and various goodies from head coach Laci Powell and assistant coach Cheyenne Valade.
“All the swimmers did really well this year,” said Powell. “I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with.”
“I will really miss the kids, and I’m sad that the season is over,” she said. “I hope everyone comes back next year, and that we’ll also see some new faces next year.”
Powell, who teaches swim lessons, said she hopes many of her swimmers will move forward and join the 2012 team.
“I’ve seen so much improvement this one summer from all these kids, it’s incredible,” she said.
