Arrests and citations in the Blue Mountain Eagle are taken from the logs of area law-enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of all arrests listed.

Justice Court

CANYON CITY – The Grant County Justice Court reported the following fines and judgments:

Violation of the basic rule: Anthony W. Montwheeler, 43, Halfway, 68/55 zone, fined $190; Ronald David Paviso, 76, Spokane Valley, Wash., 70/55 zone, fined $190.

Exceeding maximum weight limit: Gregory Kreps, 55, Emmett, Idaho, fined $163.

Violation of the speed law: Wendy Alder, 61, Felton, Calif., 52/35 zone, fined $190.

Vehicle overload: Dennis Waggoner, 44, Prairie City, fined $163.

Allen J. Tweeddale, West Linn, was convicted of hunting outside area, sentenced to 24 months probation, 40 hours of community service, and fined $500. His hunting license was suspended for three years. He was also convicted of hunting on the enclosed lands of another, sentenced to 24 months probation, 40 hours community service, ordered to write a letter of apology to the victim, and no contact with Inshallah Ranch.

Kevin Lee Brophy was convicted of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and fined $1,000, and for open container, for a fine of $230.

Circuit Court

CANYON CITY – The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following fines and judgments:

David Wayne Haynes, 31, was convicted of fourth-degree assault, and sentenced to jail for 30 days, 24 months supervised probation, 40 hours community service, no contact with the victim, and fined $668. On one count of menacing, he was sentenced to jail for 10 days, 24 months supervised probation, 20 hours community service, no contact with the victim, and fined $918. The sentence was to be consecutive to the previous one. On one count of fourth-degree assault, he was sentenced to jail for 10 days, 24 months supervised probation, 20 hours community service, and fined $893. The sentence was to be concurrent with all previously imposed ones. Counts for second-degree criminal mischief, harassment and unlawful possession of a machine gun, short-barreled rifle or shotgun, or silencer were dismissed.

Devan James Haynes, 18, was convicted of second-degree burglary, and sentenced to jail for 10 days, supervised probation for 18 months, 80 hours community service, and fined $208, plus $814 in restitution. He was ordered to write a letter of apology to the victim. Counts for first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree theft were dismissed. On one count of minor attempting to purchase alcohol, he was fined $150. His driver’s license was suspended for one year. On a count of contempt of court, he was sentenced to 48 hours in jail and fined $67.

Anthony Scott Steele, 46, was convicted of two counts of felony possession of a firearm. On the first he was sentenced to jail for 30 days, 36 months supervised probation, 80 hours community service, and fined $458. On the second count, he was sentenced to jail for 30 days, 36 months supervised probation, 120 hours community service, and fined $208. The sentence was to be concurrent with all previously imposed sentences. On one count of fourth-degree assault, he was sentenced to jail for 30 days, 36 months supervised probation, 40 hours community service, and fined $668. Several counts were dismissed: felony possession of a firearm, fourth-degree assault, two for strangulation, two for menacing and two for harassment.

Oregon State Police

At 12:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, Oregon State Police assisted a lost 3-year-old girl, who was found wandering in front of Chester’s Thriftway and inside King’s Discount Store. She was returned to her home at Riverside Mobile Home Park after a 911 call by the girl’s mother.

About 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, OSP assisted John Day Police with a DUII investigation on Rebel Hill Road in Canyon City. JD Police arrested Deborah K. Kilby, 28, Canyon City, and took her to Grant County Jail.

At 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, OSP assisted Forest Service law enforcement with a vehicle crash on FS Road 12, in which a passenger was life-flighted to Bend. The driver, Bobby Joe Nichols, 34, was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

OSP investigated a motorcycle v. deer crash on Highway 395 north of Ritter Butte at 8:55 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19. The two occupants slid for about 44 feet, with the northbound Honda Goldwing motorcycle sliding down the roadway just over 172 feet before coming to a rest. The driver, Douglas A. Nelson, 60, of Issaquah, Wash., was taken to Blue Mountain Hospital for treatment for injuries. The passenger, Sharron D. Nelson, 68, also of Issaquah, was uninjured.

John Day dispatch worked 176 calls during the week of Aug. 15-21. Along with the various traffic warnings, trespassing, injured animals, noise complaints and juvenile complaints, these calls included:

Aug. 18: Report of a ball of fire in the sky toward the Strawberry Mountains.

Aug. 19: Cited a Prairie City man for speeding on Highway 26 east of Dog Creek Road; arrested a Canyon City woman for disorderly conduct, menacing, assault and harassment.

Grant County Sheriff:

Aug. 16: Information on thefts in Long Creek and Mt. Vernon.

Aug. 17: Cited a Kent man for speeding on Highway 26 west of Fields Creek Road.

Aug. 18: Cited a Prairie City man for a driving while suspended violation.

Aug. 19: Cited an Orland, Calif., woman for speeding on Highway 26 at Indian Creek Road; cited a Monument man for speeding on Highway 395 north of Beech Creek Summit.

Aug. 20: Report of shots fired in the Lower Yard Road area.

John Day ambulance:

Aug. 15: 66-year-old woman with difficulty breathing.

Aug. 16: Middle-aged man who fell off a ladder.

Aug. 18: 83-year-old man with difficulty breathing; 42-year-old man with seizures.

Aug. 19: Dispatched for a woman who was passing out.

John Day Fire Department:

Aug. 16: Responded to reported smoke at Meadowbrook Apartments.

Aug. 19: Grass fire reported at Elm and Dayton streets.

Aug. 20: Electrical fire reported at the substation.

Monument ambulance:

Aug. 16: Requested for a person with a hip problem.

Long Creek ambulance:

Aug. 19: 49-year-old man who was disoriented.

Mt. Vernon ambulance:

Aug. 19: 18-year-old man who was unresponsive.
