Debra Lynn Pereira, 57, longtime resident of John Day, died Sept. 9, 2011, at Blue Mountain Nursing Home in Prairie City. A memorial service for immediate family will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Pereira was born July 22, 1954, in Ogden, Utah, to John and Charlene (Andrews) Surplus. She graduated from Grant Union High School in 1972, and married Bob Pereira April 19, 1973.

She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, ceramics and her pets. Her true passion, however, was being a wife, mother and homemaker. She had a warm, open and friendly personality, and never met anyone she didn’t call a friend.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Bob Pereira; father, John Surplus; brother, Michael Surplus; son, Andrew Pereira and his partner Katie Dippold; daughter, Samantha Blake; and grandchildren, Shelby Blake and JW Dippold.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlene Surplus.
