MT. VERNON In the market for a new instrument? Maybe you have one collecting dust that youd like to sell? How about a bigger amp to reach that captive audience?

Don Bauer of Mt. Vernon might be able to help.

Bauer has turned one room in his Outdoors and More store into a music shop, offering a variety of instruments, supplies and parts. Right now, most of his instruments are guitars electric and acoustic with such name brands as Mike Kelly, Fender, Gibson and Les Paul. Some are from his own supply.

But Bauer will try to offer whatever customers need: keyboards, mandolins, violins, banjos and horns. Hell take used ones by donation or on consignment. He is also a Casio keyboard dealer.

Bauer also has amps, microphones and mic stands, tuners, cases, strings, music books and repair parts, and can order anything that he doesnt have in stock.

Repairs are no problem either, with Bauer doing minor fixes at the store, and Wes Aasness handling the major ones.

If we can get the parts, we can fix it, Bauer said.

He even offers private beginning lessons at the store, after closing. The cost is $7.50 for a half-hour or $12 for an hour.

In addition to Outdoors and More, Bauer and his wife, Kim, own the nearby Route 395 mini-market, gas station and laundromat. They bought the businesses, formerly McKerns in May 2009, and opened Outdoors and More a year later.

Bauer, who plays guitar himself, started out with just a couple of guitars and assorted supplies in a corner of the store. Over the past two years, he has developed his music stock to fill an entire section.

Two more areas in the store are devoted to general merchandise and hardware, and auto parts.

Outdoors and More, located on the corner of E. Main Street and Mountain Boulevard, is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
