CANYON CITY A Bend artist returned to familiar surroundings when he led a two-week art program at Humbolt Elementary School.
Brought in as an artist-in-residence, Bill Lewis taught students in all grades various art techniques, such as watercolors, stippling drawing toned and textured patterns with small dots and color mixing, during his March 5-15 stint at the school.
Sixth-graders created paintings of five flowers, each a different color.
Lewis taught full-time at Grant Union High School for 20 years before retiring in 2006. He was also the schools wrestling coach.
He now teaches at retirement homes in the Bend area and at Central Oregon Community College, and is a member of the artist-in-residence program at ArtsEast, headquartered in La Grande.
Funds raised from the River Loop Ranch Run and Walk March 3 supported the Humbolt artist-in-residence program.
