Grange, Chamber hosting candidates

CANYON CITY Two candidate forums are scheduled in April and May in Grant County, leading up to the May 15 primary election.
The Mt. Vernon Grange will hold its candidate event on Sunday, April 15, starting at 3 p.m. All local posts that have attracted more than one candidate will be on the program.
State Sen. Ted Ferrioli will be the moderator. Organizers urged residents to attend the forum and ask questions so they can make informed choices on their ballots.
Pizza, cookies and drinks will be available.
The event was scheduled to follow the Old West Federal Credit Union annual meeting, so people can attend both meetings.
The Grant County Chamber of Commerce will hold its candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Canyon City Community Hall.
Chamber executive Sharon Mogg announced last week that all the local candidates are invited to the event.
Ballots will be mailed out to voters voters beginning April 27 and will be due back at the County Courthouse by 8 p.m. on election day, May 15.
The primary ballot will have an array of local candidates on it, including:
County Judge Mark Webb, Scott Myers.
Grant County Commissioner No. 2:
– Republicans: Steve Parsons, Dennis Voigt, Chris Labhart, Charlie Low.
– Democrats: Mick Dougharity, Byron Haberly.
Justice of the Peace: Chuck Coffman, Dan Propeck, Kathy Stinnett.
Assessor: Lane Burton.
Surveyor: Mike Springer.
Grant County Public Forest Commission:
Position 1 Republican, Dave Traylor.
Position 2 Republican, Dan Bishop.
Position 3 Republicans, Tad Houpt and Doug Gochnour.
Position 4 Republican, Roger McKinley.
Position 5 Republican, King Williams.
Position 6 Republican, Walt Gentis.
Position 7 Republican, Larry Blasing.
Alt. Pos. 1 Republican, Mike Smith.
Alt. Pos. 2 No filings.
In House District 60, the sole candidate to file is Cliff Bentz, who will be on the Republican ballot in the primary.
In addition, Glenn Palmer and Richard Gray are running for county sheriff, and Kathy Smith is running for county treasurer; both posts will appear on the general election ballot in November.
