- DUANE (Dewey) BROWN
Duane (Dewey) Brown, age 87, of Mt. Vernon went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 30,2012. Dewey passed on while in the loving embrace of his wife of 58 years, Maudean Brown. At the time of his passing, Dewey was surrounded by his loving family at the home of his daughter, Susan Hutchison and her husband Tom.
Dewey was born on November 03,1924 in Chadron, Nebraska to George Brown and Alice (Gaskin) Brown. Dewey was one of nine children.
On December 05,1953 Dewey married Maudean Ricker in Couer d’ Alene Idaho.
Dewey and Maudean moved to the John Day area in 1959, where he then began working for the US Forest Service. On May 18,1966 Dewey and Maudean became parents to their only child, Susan Alice Brown.
Maudean often teased that Dewey’s love for her was only outweighed by his love for his old cars. His love and passion for restoring antique cars is what comes first to the mind of all who knew and loved him. His car collection is known and respected throughout the northwest. He was a gifted mechanic, and his expertise in this area will be greatly missed by his family. Having driven a Road Grader for the Forest Service, for 20 years, no one knew the Grant County back roads better than he did, and that is why it was such a fun event to “just go
for a drive” with him. –
Dewey loved his grandchildren, Brandon Hutchison, Jessica (Hutchison) Moore, and Joseph Hutchison. He loved the warm weather and taking them all fishing and camping at Unity Lake in his motor home. The last couple of years, his great granddaughter Tymber Moore was the light of his life, and nothing pleased him more than taking her out into the sunshine of his back yard to blow bubbles. He lived his life with quiet humility. He was a loving, giving, strong man with a merciful heart.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Clyve, Leo, Butch, Dale, Lyle, and Marvin Brown.
He is survived by his wife Maudean of Mt Vernon, Oregon; his daughter, Susan (Brown) Hutchison and her
husband Tom Hutchison, of John Day, Oregon; his grandchildren Brandon and Mindee Hutchison, of Mt
Vernon, Oregon; Jessica (Hutchison) Moore, and Isaac Moore, of Mt Vernon, Oregon; Joseph Hutchison
and Sierra Elliott of John Day, Oregon; great granddaughter, Tymber Moore, and great grandson, Brandon and Mindee’s baby, due to arrive in July. He is also survived by his sister, Sally (Brown) Morgan of Yakima, Washington, Dutch Brown of Wapato, Washington, and Noel Brown, of Morton Washington, as well as numerous, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends
that will be forever blessed by having been a part of his life.
A memorial service in celebration of the life of this wonderful man will be held on Saturday, April 07,2012 at
2:00 pm at the Strawberry Mountain Christian Fellowship, in John Day, Oregon. Following will be a graveside
service at the Moon Creek Cemetery, west of Mt. Vernon, followed by a potluck at his home. Friends and
family are invited to attend.
