JOHN DAY The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) will host fire shelter refresher trainings and Oregon OSHA fire trainings in May.

The trainings will be from 8 a.m. to noon on May 5 at The Rock in Spray, and on May 19 at the John Day ODF office, 415 Patterson Bridge Road.

Participants must sign up by calling John Day Interagency Dispatch Center at 541-575-1321, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.

The fire shelter refresher is mandatory each year for anyone who might go to the fireline for Oregon Department of Forestry. This includes drivers, fallers, dozer operators, and others doing similar work. Participants are required to complete the Oregon OSHA Fire training one time; it does not need repeating, as long as proof of prior completion is available.

The class does not meet the RT-130 requirement for Forest Service contracts or agreements. However, ODF will honor federal RT-130 training in lieu of the ODF training.

For more information, call 541-575-1321.
