SHERWOOD Geraldine Eloise Johnson, 81, died April 7 at her Cedar Creek residence in Sherwood. Services were held April 13 at Prairie Baptist Church in Prairie City.

Mrs. Johnson was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Prairie City, the oldest of two children to Edwin and Helen (Retrum) Chambers. She grew up in Prairie City, graduating in 1948 from Prairie City High School, and attended Eastern Oregon College of Education in La Grande for a year.

On Sept. 9, 1950, she married Robert Bob Johnson, at her familys home in Prairie City. Their first home was just two houses away from her parents. They moved to John Day in 1958, and returned to Prairie City in 1973.

She worked at the Prairie Movie Theatre while in high school, and later as a bookkeeper for Prairie Creamery and Blue Mountain Hospital. Her husband started selling insurance out of their John Day home, before purchasing her fathers Farmers Insurance agency. They ran the agency until they retired in 1983.

After retirement, they spent time RV-ing, eventually settling in Tualatin where she lived until this year.

She loved her family and friends, and never knew a stranger. Always part of a church family, she had a strong faith in God, which she made the center of her familys life. She often played piano for church or Sunday school, and enjoyed the womens circle. She quietly served as one of Gods humble servants.

Survivors include her children, Mike (Sue) Johnson of Tualatin, Debbie Daniels of Newburg, Jackie Thomason of Meridian, Idaho, and Mark (Shelly) Johnson of Boring; sister, Janet (George) Matis of Sun City, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 1996.

Memorial contributions may be made to Prairie Baptist Church or Grace Chapel in Prairie City.
