PENDLETON Grant Union High School golfer Mike Moles tied for low medalist honors April 13 in the Nixyaawii Invitational at Wildhorse Golf Club.

Ten teams competed on the par-72 course. The Prospectors placed fourth with a combined 398.
Heppner finished first with 347, followed by Nixyaawii with 372, and Enterprise, 375. After Grant Union came Echo with 398, Wallowa with 415, and Horizon Christian, 428.
Individually, Moles and Sergio Morris of Cove each scored 82. Nolan Nez of Nixyaawii took second place with 84. Tied for third place were Treve Moffit of Echo, Austin Gutierrez of Heppner, and Kyle Harrison of Heppner, all with 85 scores.

Rounding out the scoring for Grant Union, Chris Gibson shot an 87; Matt Broemeling, 105; and Reuben Harvey, 111. In girls golf, Heppner shot a 443, followed by Enterprise with 445. Low medalist was Heppners Blake Greenup with 99, followed by McKenna Miller of Enterprise with 105. Grant Unions Chenise Clark shot a 119.
Although three of the boys had personal bests, most of the team struggled throughout the day, said coach Ron Lundbom.
Most of them shot solid scores except for two or three holes that all of them had problems with, he said. If we had another chance this year, we would see a different outcome.
The Prospectors golf again this Friday, April 20, in the 1A/2A Invitational at Pendleton Country Club.
