GU athletes compete at Vale Relays, Meet of Champions

SALEM Five Grant Union High School track and field athletes did well at the Meet of Champions at Willamette University in Salem last Saturday, April 28.

The day before, a dozen others showed their skills at the Vale Relays in Vale.
At Willamette, junior Mary Roy took second in triple jump, fourth in long jump, and 12th in 200 meters.
Teammate Taylor Smith was fifth in javelin.

Desiree Kodesh was 11th in discus, 12th in javelin, and 17th in shot put.
For the boys, Nick Wilson took fourth in long jump.
Trent Sohr was seventh in high jump.
At the Vale Relays, Brandon Kerr set a personal record in the shot put and placed first. He was second in 110-meter hurdles and third in 300-meter hurdles.
Braden Witty was first in javelin and second in 300-meter hurdles, with a personal record.
Malachi Teague was second in shot put, and sixth in javelin.
Logan Delano was second in discus, and fourth in shot put.
Omar Medina set a personal record and placed fourth in 3,000 meters.
Other top 10 placements were:
Boys: Khol Goin, 4th, javelin; Daniel Bentz, 4th, triple jump and 5th, long jump; Kyle Erickson, 5th, discus and 7th, shot put; Zack Carpenter, 6th discus and 9th, shot put; Kyle Carpenter, 7th, javelin; Justin Joslin, 8th, 3000 meters; and Harsh Patel, 9th, 3000 meters.
For the girls, Kimberly Irwin was fourth in discus. Carli Gardner took fifth in triple jump and seventh in long jump.
Other girls faring well were:
Riley Sharp, 7th, triple jump and 8th, long jump; Kelsey Long, 10th in 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles; Jenni McCloskey, 10th in discus and 11th in shot put; Taylor Douglass, 11th, 100-meter hurdles; Sarah McNeil, 13th, shot put; and Hannah Willey, 14th javelin, and 15th, discus.
