There were scientific discoveries aplenty in the great outdoors during two Outdoor School events. Fifth- and sixth-graders from Humbolt Elementary School and Seneca School students in grades four-six enjoyed learning at the Swick Outdoor School held at Swick Old Growth Forest May 24. Third- and fourth-grade students journeyed to Lake Creek Youth Camp for outdoor school on June 1.
Highlights from both events included fun activities and a close look at animal habitat, insects and trees.
Teachers coordinating the events include: Georgia Beothin (Swick), Marilyn Berry and Andrea Ferreira (Lake Creek). Agencies assisting included U.S. Forest Service, Oregon Department of Forestry, Malheur National Forest, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Grant County Watermaster’s Office, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Oregon State University extension and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
