Corrected version An earlier article incorrectly cited Palmers contributions at $10,700 but that included some amounts from a previous campaign. The total should have been $7,300.

SALEM In the race for campaign cash, incumbent Sheriff Glenn Palmer is outstripping his opponent, John Day Police Sgt. Richard Gray, more than 2 to 1.

As the ballots went out last Friday, campaign spending reports to the state Elections Division showed that Palmers campaign has raised $7,300 while Gray reported contributions of $3,100 over the course of the campaign.

Palmers coffers were bolstered on Oct. 16 by one large contribution: $1,200 from the Oregon Firearms Federation Political Action Committee. The PAC also gave him $2,000 last April. His largest single donation, also in April, was $2,500 from Silvies Valley Ranch LLC.

His other contributions were under four figures, however, with the largest of those coming in at $250 or smaller amounts including miscellaneous cash contributions under $100.

Grays filing listed various miscellaneous contributions, with the largest individual contributions at $500 one from Fred Gardner and another from Linda Gray, both in January.

Candidates must file committee organization statements with the state Elections Division, unless they dont have a committee and dont expect to spend or receive more than $750 for their campaigns this year.

A seven-day reporting requirement kicked into effect Sept. 25 for general election campaigns.

In the Grant County Commissioner race, Democrat Mick Dougharity and Independent Mike Cosgrove have filed statements of organization with the Elections Division. Neither campaign has filed spending reports yet.

Republican Chris Labhart and write-in candidate Steve Parsons have not filed organization statements or spending reports with the state.
