The Ellis Tracy Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary is again sponsoring the drive in which items are put into a store at the Portland Veterans Administration Medical Center. The veterans in the hospital, who usually have little or no income, can shop for free Christmas gifts for their families.
Donated items are being collected and displayed at Mosiers Home Furnishings in John Day through noon Saturday, Nov. 10.
Gifts that are popular among the veterans include flannel shirts, gloves, games, cameras and toys. Cash donations also are welcome, with the funds to stay here in Grant County.
