Storytime at Families First

Gluten-free meeting

AARP drivers safety

9 a.m.-4 p.m., Strawberry Grange, Prairie City

Saturday, Feb. 16

Jillie Jog 5K

8 a.m., Grant County Regional Airport

Registration starts at 8 a.m., with the 5K to kick off at 9. All participants are welcome: runners, walkers, bikers, strollers, dogs and kids. The cost is $10 a person. There will also be a free tot trot for those 8 and under, starting at 10 a.m. Proceeds go toward medical needs for Jillie Thunell of John Day, who has been diagnosed with AML Leukemia. Prenatal class

9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Blue Mountain Hospital, John Day

Katrina Randleas of Families First Parent Resource Center will lead the free prenatal class, Baby Steps: Birth and Beyond, in the hospital conference room. Both expectant mothers and their childbirth partners are encouraged to attend. Lunch is provided. The classes will be held four-five times a year. Dance at the grange

3:30-6:30 p.m., Mt. Vernon Grange

The cost is $5 a couple or $3 a person, and free for children under 12. Coffee, punch and cookies will be available; no alcohol allowed. Music provided by Up River Country Band.

Potluck dinner and bingo

5 p.m., Mt. Vernon Community Hall

The cost is $10 a person. Payout is 50 percent and blackout starts at $50. Bring a hot or cold dish, plus table service; meat will be provided. The dinner-and-bingo nights, are presented by Cinnabar Mountain Rendezvous, and will be held the third Saturday of each month during spring.

Dinner and a movie date night

5 p.m., Canyon City Community Hall

The evening includes a no-host bar and raffle ticket sales until 5:30 p.m., roast beef dinner by Cliff House Catering and basket raffle until 6:45, followed by the 1987 PG-13 movie, The Princess Bride. Tickets are $50 per couple; any two people attending together are a couple. All proceeds benefit home visitation programs. Call Families First, 541-575-1006.

Queen coronation dinner, dance and auction

6 p.m., Grant County Fairgrounds pavilion

Queen Desiree Robison Strange and Princess CheyAnne Maley will be crowned, and ambassadors Sasha Juarez and Makaela Speakman will be honored. The event includes a tri-tip dinner, dance with a variety of DJ music, cowgirl poetry, door prizes, and three auctions dessert, silent and live. Dancing will be from 9-11:30 p.m. The door prize and auction list includes over 70 items. There will also be a display of past fair courts. Seneca Winter Classic snowmobile races

8 a.m., Seneca race track, west side of town

The Grant County Snowballers and Les Schwab Tires present snowmobile drag and oval races. Events will be double elimination, with plenty of cash prizes available. There will also be vintage snowmobiles on display. Spectator admission is free. Call 541-620-0134 or visit grantcountysnowballers.com.

Pesticide recertification course

8 a.m.-5 p.m., Outpost Restaurant

Grant County Soil & Water Conservation District and Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration present the free course which is open to the public. Either or both of the sessions may be attended: Worker Protection Standards in the morning, or Hazard Communication Programs in the afternoon. A total of seven credits may be earned. Pancake feed

5-7 p.m., Mt. Vernon Grange

The Mt. Vernon Grange will hold its annual pancake feed, with a cakewalk and music. The cost is $6 for adults, $3.50 for youth ages 6-12, and free for children under 6.

Marketplace
