John beat thyroid cancer in 2008. He suddenly passed away in Bend on Friday from an unknown rare brain tumor.
He was born in Escondido, CA, to Rodney and Charlotte Townsend. At age 10, he moved to Monmouth, OR, where he later graduated from Central High. John most enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing, spending time with his 10-year-old son Logan, and was involved in coaching softball for Sisters Little League.
He was a Commercial Glazier by trade, and worked on projects such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Seattle, and the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville.

John was preceded in death by his father Rodney in 2010. He is survived by son Logan Townsend, step-children Megan and Michael, mother Charlotte of John Day, brothers Rick of San Diego, Brian of Sisters, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Johns Life, May 11th at 12pm. Location: 15787 Trapper Point Rd. Sisters, OR.
