Salem –  The Oregon Parole Board has pulled back the June 7 release date for Sidney Dean Porter.

The Parole Board in February granted an early release for Porter and he was expected to move to his family’s ranch in the Monument area Friday.

Jay Scroggin, executive director of the Parole Board, confirmed the board made the decision to rescind the release after an executive session Tuesday, June 4.

Scroggin declined to comment on the reason for the board’s change of heart.

Porter is serving a life sentence for killing John Day Police Officer Frank Ward 21 years ago.

The Parole Board said it will schedule a new hearing in September 2013 to consider Porter’s release. The decision to release Porter stirred a storm of protests from law enforcement officials across the state.
