VALE Lightning sparked multiple fires Monday on the Bureau of Land Managements Vale District, officials said Tuesday.
The largest fire is the Crowley Creek Fire, five miles east of Stockade Mountain in Malheur County. It grew to 4,500 acres by Tuesday, pushed by winds overnight. Crews manning bull dozers, water tenders and fire engines are working the fire, along with hand crews and a helicopter, the BLM said.
The South Fork Fires five in all were estimated at 1,500 acres, burning on state lands in Harney County, near the South Fork of the Malheur River.
Officials said engine crews were making progress on those fires.
