Ranch honors students

Silvies Valley Ranch has awarded educational scholarships to 10 local students who are either current or previous graduates of Grant County high schools.

The 2013 Grant County winners are: Daryl Ann Waltenburg, Bradley Cates, Joshua Whitman, Garret Gardner, Shannon Croghan, Isaac Studtmann, Mary Cade, Hana Cooper, Katie Page-Hoberg and Tel Winegar.

Harney County winners are: Austin Piper, Erika Bentz, Sheyanne Root, Erik Davies, Wilson Witzel, Elizabeth Davis and Raime OSullivan.

For the first time, this years winners include two students who are receiving scholarships for the fourth year in a row.

Its particularly exciting that we are providing scholarships to winners for their fourth consecutive year, said Sandy Campbell, scholarship committee chair.

It has been so rewarding to see these students through their educational journey, Campbell added.

In addition to the fourth-year winners, five students are receiving scholarships for the second year, and ten are first-time recipients.

Since the start of the program in 2010, Silvies Valley Ranch has given out 55 scholarships totaling $46,000. This years awards ranged from $500-$1,000 per recipient for the 2013-2014 academic year.

To be eligible, students must be graduates of local high schools or home schools, with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75-4.0. They must intend to enroll in an accredited college, junior college, university, trade or business school, and pursuing a field of study related to ranching, such such as science, agriculture, wildlife, forestry or livestock.

The application process period is from Jan. 1 each year through April 1. Forms are available from local high school counselors or at www.silviesvalleyranch.com.
