Local bank awards scholarships

Three 2013 Grant Union High School graduates are among the 20 students awarded scholarships by the Bank of Eastern Oregon.
The $500 awards go to :
Codey Edgar was active in soccer, skiing, science club, Young Life and FFA, and served as student body vice-president. He earned academic awards including scholar athlete, excellence in science and in agricultural, and first-place in ag sales. He volunteered for the Grant County Food Bank, built a Forest Service sign, and helped with the new track. Edgar plans to study forest management at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.
Christopher Gibson lettered in football, basketball, soccer and golf; was a member of the science club, FFA, the Junior Oregon Golf Association, Northeast Oregon Junior Golf Association and the leadership program; and was senior class president. He volunteered in peer meditation, the Red Cross blood drive, lunch buddy program, and more. He plans to study business and professional golf management at the University of Idaho in Moscow.
Joshua Whitman was active in football, track and field, and 4-H and FFA, winning awards in sheep and swine showmanship, rifle and pistol presentation, horsemanship, FFA beef production entrepreneurship. He volunteered for the fair and rodeo court, the Flying Tiger Club, blood drives, Earth Day, Cow Kids Rodeo, and more, and is a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to pursue general education and agriculture classes at Eastern Oregon University.
