JOHN DAY A sunny Saturday brought droves of visitors to the John Day Farmers Market.
Sandy Bay of Mt. Vernon, who organizes the event along with her husband Jim, said the turnout June 15 was successful with 18 vendors participating so far this summer.
That includes vendors from last year, plus new ones, who are selling a variety of goods, including homemade ice cream, crafts, jewelry, hanging baskets, and baked goodies.
Occasional kids crafts and food demonstrations will also be available.
Last Saturday, Elaine Mezzo of John Day helped children make garden stones, which they decorated with brightly colored jewels.
Coming up this Saturday, June 22, Mezzo will have a tasting booth with samples from Fields Grassfed Beef and herbs from Happy Hens.
The market hours are 9 a.m.-12 noon, and Bay encourages residents who have to be at work by 9 a.m. to stop by beforehand.
Vendors are usually set up by 8:30 a.m., she said.
