Storytelling class

Little League car wash

10 a.m.-3 p.m., Les Schwab Tire Center, John Day

Grant County Little League softball all-stars will hold a by-donation car wash.

Grant County Health Fair

6 a.m.-noon, Grant Union Junior-Senior High School, John Day

Tests available include blood draws for $30 a person, and prostate screening for $15. Fasting is required for 12 hours prior; water and medications are okay. People are encouraged to preregister payment is required for the tests at the Grant County Health Department from 8:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 17-20.

Several health care providers, and representatives from health-minded organizations will be available. Frontier Leadership Network and Grant County Circle of Friends will be on hand, and Safe Communities Coalition will have a drug take back booth. The fair is co-sponsored by Blue Mountain Hospital, BMH Auxiliary, Grant County Health Department and Malheur National Forest. Call the Health Department at 541-575-0429 or 1-888-443-9104.

Movie night at Monument School

The 6 p.m. show is intended for younger audiences. Admission is free, and concessions, including pizza by the slice, are available. Sponsored by the Monument Student Council, the FFA and the Flying Tigers.

Cowboy Fast Draw Championship

8 a.m., Downtown Canyon City

Several matches are planned for the event, hosted by the Idaho Shootists and the Great Western Fast Draw Club. There will be $5,000 in cash and prizes. Other activities include a pancake breakfast on Saturday, dinner and awards Saturday night, and cowboy church in the park on Sunday. For details, see the article on page B10.

Pastor Al Altnow installed

11 a.m., First Christian Church, John Day

All are welcome to the installation of Rev. Al Altnow, pastor of the First Christian Church during the 11 a.m. worship service June 23. Regional pastor Doug Wirtz of Portland will conduct the service and there will be a no-host luncheon afterward at the Outpost Restaurant. Altnow was voted as pastor of the local church in January 2012.

Cinnabar Mountain Playdays

Noon, Burton Arena, Roper Road, Mt. Vernon

Rodeo starts at 1 p.m., with events including barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, dummy roping, keyhold, flag race and figure 8. Age groups are: Leadline, open; PeeWee, ages 6 and under; Junior, ages 7-9; Intermediate, 10-14; Senior, 15-17. Call Shilo Burton, 541-620-1617.

Kids summer dance camp

Noon-2 p.m., Grant Union High School old gym, John Day

Techniques to be covered during the three-day camp include hip hop, ballet, jazz, stretching and short routines. Participants should arrive by 11:30 a.m. on the first day. The camp is for ages 6 through junior-high, and costs $30 a person. All proceeds support the Grant Union Dance Team.

Vacation Bible school
