SENECA The sounds of Ghanian drumming reverberated through the halls of Seneca School May 13-16 as students had a visit from Okaidja Afroso of Portland.

Renowned in his homeland of Ghana, Afroso has danced and drummed in groups there since childhood, performing throughout Africa, Europe and the U.S. Hes also performed as lead dancer in Obo Addys Homowa group based in Portland.

It was fun having him here because he is a really, really good drummer, said sixth-grader Cody Combs. It was interesting learning about Ghana where he came from.

The students learned basic Ghanian drumming techniques during Afrosos stay, performing for their parents and others on May 16.

Codys sister Kenna, a fourth-grader, also was impressed with the weeks classes.

I learned a lot about drumming, about base and tone, and he was really good he was very patient with us, Kenna said. I hope he comes back.
