ELGIN Grant Union wrestlers had a good round of competition at the John Rysdam Tournament in Elgin last week.

The team wrestled well, said head coach Andy Lusco. We are making solid progress toward team goals and have improved significantly in just the last week.

Sixteen Prospectors took part in the event, with Hunter Sexsmith placing second in the 285-pound class; Caleb Batease, third at 285; Tucker Wright, third at 220; and Antonio Dancer, fourth at 145.

Our younger wrestlers got lots of matches outside of the tournament with other JV wrestlers, Lusco said.

He mentioned a few who wrestled especially well at the junior varsity level, including: Clay Johnson (126), Colt Martin (126), Kyle Brownlee (145) and Andrew Copenhaver (160).

Several first-time wrestlers also joined in at the event.

Grant Union now gears up for the Jan. 3-4 Jo-Hi Tournament in Joseph.
