Filing season begins for primary election

CANYON CITY Candidates are tossing hats in the ring for the 2014 elections.
The filing deadline for the May 20 primary election is coming up at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, according to County Clerk Brenda Percy.
Percy is among the candidates who have already filed for re-election to one of three nonpartisan posts that will be on the ballot. In addition to her run to retain the county clerk job, Grant County District Attorney Ryan Joslin and 24th District Circuit Court Judge William D. Cramer Jr. have filed for re-election to their posts.
Five other countywide positions will on the ballots in March, by party. These are the County Commissioner No. 1 seat, now held by Boyd Britton, and three positions and one alternative position on the Grant County Public Forest Commission.
Voters also will fill precinct committee positions. The filing period for those candidates is Feb. 1 through March 6.
