Last Fridays strong offensive performance spurred the Tiger girls to a 35-15 win over the Arlington Honkers at the Monument court.
We held Arlington to 15 total points with a strong team defensive effort, said coach Jay Kenyon. Good ball movement on the offensive end was the game highlight for us.
He noted that with the return of Mary Yankee and Emmalee and Kendall Hettinga, the team is starting to gel as a unit. The three players had been out for the first 10 games due to injury.

The victory over the Honkers came after a 42-35 point win over Grant Unions junior varsity squad on Jan. 7.
With the two nonleague wins, Kenyon said the team is looking forward to the start of the High Desert League portion of their schedule.
We still have a lot of improving to do to compete with the likes of Prairie City, and hope that our first two league games will help us get closer, he said.
The Tiger girls face Long Creek/Ukiah at 6 p.m. Friday and Mitchell/Spray at 2 p.m. Saturday. Both games are at the Monument court, followed by boys varsity action.
Tiger boys attack the nets
The Dayville/Monument boys also enjoyed success with a big 71-47 win over Arlington.
The aggressive Tiger defense caused the Honkers 32 turnovers, and Colten Winters scored a whopping 32 points.
The boys did very well against Arlington, said coach Jeff Schafer. We were able to execute well on offense and attack the rebounds better. I was proud of the boys for protecting the ball we had only 13 turnovers.
He added, Arlington is a tougher team than the record shows.
The boys also had a successful game Jan. 7 in John Day, beating Grant Unions junior varsity team 47-38.
