FireMed unveils new logo as part of branding effort

FireMed has unveiled its first new logo in more than a quarter century.
The announcement comes on the heels of the merging Eugene and Springfield fire departments and announcing the unified department’s new name.
The new logo features a white cross, replacing the serpent-entwined rod from Greek mythology that has long been associated with healing.
FireMed said the “more calming look” of its new logo is intended to reach a broader audience and attract younger members. The majority of FireMed’s 33,000 Lane County residents are 55 or older.
“Most people in our area are familiar with the FireMed program,” said Eugene Springfield Fire Chief Randall Groves in a news release, “but for some reason many think it’s a program for our senior community when in fact it is a program that protects anyone, including families, who become members.”
The new logo accompanies a new website — firemed.org — as well as new photography, printed materials and video advertisements.
FireMed members don’t receive an ambulance bill if they require emergency transportation. The basic membership costs $62 per year, and covers an entire household. A FireMed Plus membership costs $107 per year and includes emergency air transport through Life Flight Network, a FireMed partner.
Its logo was last changed in 1986.
