CAVE JUNCTION Ñ Six intruders dressed in camouflage and armed with assault rifles kicked in a door and menaced a 20-year-old man who lives at the home, before stealing a car early this morning.
Josephine County Sheriff Gil Gilbertson said at least one of the intruders had the word “police” on his or her jacket, and the group presented themselves as law enforcement officers.
The incident occurred on Piller Place, off of Westside Road. Gilbertson and sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Webb responded after the 3:30 a.m. call to investigate. No arrests have been made.
Gilbertson said he didn’t know if the motive was drug- or money-related. The only known stolen item was the Volkswagen GTI.
Oregon State Police also received a call but judged the situation to be non-life-threatening and did not respond because the perpetrators had already left, according to Gilbertson.
Two other people in a nearby mobile home apparently did not hear the confrontation.
Gilbertson said a similar incident occurred last year in Takilma, with intruders presenting themselves as law enforcement officers.
