Man goes fishing; home goes up in smokes

Medford, Ore.– A south Medford man comes home from a day of fishing to find his home burnt down.

73-year-old Robert Day was on his way back from fishing Saturday afternoon and got a call he will never forget.

“I was just putting the boat away and Dr. Tom called me and said your house has burnt down,” Day said.

His home on the 500 block of Griffin Creek Road went up in flames.

Nneighbor Vern Vanriper saw the flames shooting nearly 30 feet in the air and called 9-1-1.

“Half the house was engulfed and a larger two story structure was getting on fire at that time and it was pretty serious and I seen to make sure his little pitbull was out of there,” Vanriper said.

Day’s home is a complete loss, he says he’ll get over losing his home.

He does have renters insurance.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
