Classical piano concert on tap

JOHN DAY – The Juniper Arts Council and the John Day United Methodist Church will present an afternoon concert featuring pianist Dr. James Cook, 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Methodist Church, 126 N.W. Canton.

Dr. Cook will offer classical selections by Bach, Mozart and Chopin. A native of the Northwest, he has degrees from the Julliard School and the University of Southern California in piano performance. He has given solo, chamber and concerto performances throughout the world. Concerto appearances include the Minneapolis, Salem and Spokane symphonies, the Peter Britt Festival in Jacksonville and many university orchestras.
The concert is free, but donations are welcome, which will benefit the Juniper Arts Council Scholarship fund. A dessert reception will follow.
Organizers hope the afternoon scheduling will allow more people of all ages to attend.
