Jesus Mores Nava now faces a charge of first-degree manslaughter for killing a 7-year-old girl in a March 19 crash in Hermiston.

The Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office brought the charge Friday, according to court documents. District Attorney Dan Primus also charged Nava, 29, of Paterson, Wash., with second-degree assault, two counts of felony hit and run and a count of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Oregon State Police are investigating the wreck that killed Taleeya Maria Roquez and sent her mother, Leslie Ann Roquez, 29, to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Portland. Legacy Emanuel spokesman Brian Willoughby said Roquez is no longer at the hospital.

State police said last week that alcohol could be a contributing factor in the crash. The charging documents do not say how drunk Nava may have been. OSP Lt. Mike Turner of Pendleton was out of the office.

Umatilla County Circuit Court records show Nava had a conviction for driving under the influence in 2008, and that he pleaded guilty in 2010 to menacing two females and received two years probation.

Nava remains in the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton, in lieu of $3 million bail.
