A man was found dead in the Umatilla River Tuesday afternoon near the city of Umatilla.

Law enforcement responded to the Highway 730 bridge west of Umatilla shortly after 3:30 p.m. after a caller reported a man was face down in the water under the bridge. The Umatilla County Sheriff’s office, Oregon State Police and City of Umatilla Police Department responded.

The man was brought to shore and pronounced dead.

Deputies on scene declined to give details and the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office was unable to be reached by press time.
