HERMISTON Its a repeat the Grant Union senior band won the March 19 District 6 competition for the second year in a row.
The Grant Union junior-senior choir received second place, also for the second consecutive year.
Both groups are led by Grant Unions music director Mary Ann Vidourek.
She noted the band and choir each played their District repertoire at their March 11 concert at Grant Union.
It gave us time to brush up, she said. They did very well.
While the choir received the highest scores ever since becoming a junior-senior choir, they didnt make the needed score to qualify for state.
Theyve come a long way, she said.
Vidourek said that next school year shell need more male voices as her two basses are set to graduate and two tenors are eighth-graders.
The band attends state competition at Oregon State University in Corvallis May 16.
Her group will rehearse in an auditorium before the contest with a colleague on hand to critique the band, she said.
An auditorium stage is big and open, and how they sound to each other and to themselves is different, she said. Im very proud of them for what they are able to do.
