Grant Union track team ‘breaks ice’ in Prineville

PRINEVILLE There were a number of bright spots as the Grant Union track and field team made their first appearance at last Thursdays Breaking the Ice meet in Prineville.
Head coach Sonna Smith said she took a small group to the meet.
Samantha Brock excelled in three events, taking first place in the 100-meter high hurdles with 18.7 and first in the triple jump, 31-8. She tied for second in the long jump, 13-6.
Taylor Smith threw 120 in the javelin, earning first place.
For the boys, Zack Wyllie placed first in the 3,000-meter run with 10:54 and fourth in the 1,500 with 5:00.
Andrew Copenhaver was tied for second in the pole vault with 9-6.
Sam Bentz was fifth in the 200-meter dash and Levi Coalwell was fifth in the 100.
The team travels to the Pendleton meet Tuesday, April 1, and the Don Walker Invitational in Nyssa on Friday, April 4.
