Many of the health effects of electronic cigarettes are still uncertain but local physicians say they are not any safer than traditional cigarettes.
Dr. Rebecca Schane from Asante Rogue Regional says many smokers believe e-cigarettes can be a tool to quit smoking.
She says that’s not true because they still contain nicotine “It’s just another product that’s been marketed to keep you hooked, in many respects. It’s a newer idea, it’s a new option, a reinvention of the wheel.”

Schane also says younger smokers who start smoking with e-cigarettes are more likely to choose smoking as a long term habit.
