LA GRANDE – George “Wesley” Kalmbach, 64, of La Grande, died April 23 at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande. A public viewing was held April 25 at Loveland Chapel, and a memorial service on April 26 at Homestead Country Church. Interment was at Island City Cemetery.

Mr. Kalmbach was born May 30, 1949, in La Grande, to George and Hulda Kalmbach. He attended La Grande High School, Multnomah Bible College and Blue Mountain Community College.
In August 1970, he married Marit Hansen of the Long Creek area.
He worked for Goss Motor Company, and enjoyed his fellow employees and many customers. He and his wife were joint owners with his parents of George’s Texaco in La Grande for over 25 years.

His hobbies included hunting, target practice, and afternoon jeep rides. He was active at First Baptist Church, and was instrumental in starting the Homestead Country gathering, which he and his wife attended since its beginning.
Survivors include his wife, Marit of La Grande; his children, Daniel (Bethany) Kalmbach of Twin Falls, Idaho, Lisa (Jason) Vanderpool of Juneau, Alaska, and Mark Kalmbach of La Grande; siblings, Rod (Brenda) Kalmbach and Donna (John Phillips) Kalmbach; grandchildren, Tyler, Naomi, Rebekah and Nathaniel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hulda Kalmbach.
