Dayville, Prairie City track teams attend league meet

HARPER – Dayville and Prairie City’s track and field teams traveled Saturday to the High Desert League Meet in Harper.

Several Prairie City Panthers had season-best scores at the event, which included seven teams with a combination of high school and middle school athletes.

Gaining personal records were Garrett Hitz for pole vault, first place at 10-06.00; Nathan Maloy for the 200-meter dash, fifth at 27.36; Michel Hitz in the 100-meter hurdles, first at 19.49; Samantha Molt in javelin, ninth at 64-01; and Devin Packard in javelin, fifth place at 130-06.

Head coach Joe Weymouth said Garrett Hitz is currently positioned at second place for pole vault, third for the 110 hurdle and fourth for the 300 hurdle.

For Dayville, Renee Inscore put in top performances, coming in first for javelin at 113-00 and second for discus, 73-01. Colten Winters was first in javelin, recording a 145-07 mark, and came in sixth in discus.

“The weather turned nasty and our marks did not come close to Friday’s results,” said Dayville coach Skip Inscore. “We did have fun and are looking forward to district this weekend.”

The varsity teams will be at the District Championships Meet in Baker City, starting at 10 a.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.
