The event is set for Saturday, May 31.

A bus will take the participants to four museums – the DeWitt Museum in Prairie City, the Grant County Historical Museum in Canyon City, the Grant County Ranch and Rodeo Museum in John Day and the Kam Wah Chung museum in John Day.

The tour schedules 45 minutes at each museum to give “crawlers” a sampling of what each museum has to offer. At each stop, a museum speaker will share the history of the museum itself, and then delve into a few tantalizing secrets from Grant County’s past.

The tour will start at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Kam Wah Chung visitors center. The tour will end after the scheduled 2 p.m. tour of Kam Wah Chung. It will include a stop for a pulled pork lunch at the Grant County Chamber of Commerce.

Les Zaitz, president of the Grant County Economic Council, said the museums are “local gems” that may be overlooked by local residents.

“We know people will be impressed with what they see and, importantly, encourage visitors to explore the museums as well,” he said.

“Visitors come from miles around to experience and discover the cultural heritage and history of Eastern Oregon that is ours to enjoy, right here in our own backyard. There are no complicated travel plans to make and entrance fees are affordable for families.” said Sharon Mogg, Chamber executive director.

The tour package costs $25 and includes bus transportation, admission fees, and lunch.

The tour is limited to the first 20 paid reservations; RSVP by Wednesday, May 28. Checks may be made out to the Grant County Economic Council and delivered to the Chamber office or mailed to GCEC, PO Box 837, John Day, OR 97845.
