CORVALLIS – Midshipman 3rd class Bianca Thomas of Kimberly has been awarded the Midshipman of the Quarter award for the winter term 2014, from Oregon State University’s; Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
The award recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in the performance of their duties.
Thomas, a student at OSU, is enrolled in the school’s NROTC program.
Captain Richard Wood II, U.S. Navy commanding officer, noted, “Midshipman Thomas expertly balanced the myriad of naval science courses and duties with a strenuous academic course load as a zoology major.”
Thomas also received the Lt. Col. Nelson Olf Endowed Scholarship, presented by Lt. Col. (ret.) Nelson Olf and the Benton County Foundation. The award recognizes midshipmen who show outstanding overall leadership potential.
Thomas, who graduated from Monument High School in 2012, plans to commission as an officer in the Marine Corps upon her graduation from the program.
She is the daughter of Chuck and Maria Thomas of Kimberly.
