- More results: County voters pick Carpenter, Britton, fire bond
CANYON CITY – In the most hotly contested Grant County primary race, voters ousted two-term District Attorney Ryan Joslin, electing challenger Jim Carpenter with 57 percent of the vote.
Carpenter came away with 1,368 votes to Joslin’s 1,009, in uncertified results released by the Grant County Clerk’s office just after the polls closed Tuesday night.
Returns also showed voters picking incumbent County Commissioner Boyd Britton for his post, with 733 votes. Fellow Republicans Gary Delaney and Sam Palmer got 328 and 417 votes, respectively, in their attempt to replace him.
Britton advances to the general election. No Democrat filed for the office, but the party’s ballots drew 142 write-in votes.
In John Day, the measure to build a new fire station succeeded, passing in both the city and the John Day Rural Fire Protection District.
The vote in the city was 305 yes to 198 no. Rural district voters passed it 252 to 180.
In broader races, county voters generally followed the trends.
