JOHN DAY – Everything in John Day was put on hold for Saturday’s vibrant Grant County Fair Parade.
“Gold Pans & Cattle Brands” was a fitting theme, bringing out a bit of the Old West in the participants.
Following Old Glory, held up by Search and Rescue volunteer Kelly Collins, the parade was led by Grand Marshals Dennis and Julie Reynolds, and Joan Metlock sang the national anthem to start things off.
Chester’s Thriftway’s entry, which featured a replica of the fairgrounds’ old Sale Barn – brought to new life last year – a handmade longhorn steer and a gold miner, won the sweepstakes prize.
If any spectators were missing from downtown sidewalks, it could be because they were in the parade.
Many youth marched alongside floats, including the 4-H members and the Grant Union volleyball team or rode horseback such as the Rocky Top Riders and the Cinnabar Mountain Playdays group.
