HERMISTON – A class to train certified ombudsman volunteers will begin Sept. 17 in Hermiston, offered by the state Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman.

The volunteers, who advocate for seniors living in long-term care facilities, are trained to educate, investigate, and stand up for the rights of the resident and solve problems.

They often are the first to spot and report elder abuse but also can resolve many quality-of-care issues.

People must apply by Sept. 5 to be accepted for the five-day program. Travel expenses can be reimbursed.

To apply, visit www.oregon.gov/LTCO to download an application or contact Gretchen Jordan, Coordinator of Volunteers at 1-800-522-2602.
