Precip could ramp up in November

PENDLETON – Temperatures at John Day averaged warmer than normal during October, according to preliminary data from NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 51.7 degrees, 2.3 degrees above normal.

High temperatures averaged 66.8 degrees, 1.4 degrees above normal. The highest was 83 degrees on Oct. 8.

Low temperatures averaged 36.5 degrees, 3.1 degrees above normal. The lowest was 30 degrees on Oct. 11.

There were three days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.85 inches during October, 0.14 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation – at least .01 inch – was recorded on 12 days with the heaviest, 0.17 inches reported on Oct. 21.

The outlook for November from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above-normal temperatures and near- to above-normal precipitation.

Normal highs for John Day fall from 57 degrees at the start of November to 44 degrees at the end of November. Normal lows fall from 31 degrees to 25 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.35 inches.
